Leaduh: I can't admit I've made mistakes, people will think less of me.
Leader: Where should I start?
Leaduh: I don't read or listen to books, I only browse headlines and social media.
Leader: It's important to be a lifelong learner. While there are so many, my favorite is Leading at a Higher Level by Ken Blanchard.
Leaduh: Probably terminate them.
Leader: Ensure they know where they stand on performance and behaviors and coach them for success using situational leadership and SMART Goals.
Leaduh: Nope. We are a private company and I don't want to share how much money we make - people will want raises.
Leader: Absolutely! We set annual financial goals and we want employees engaged in our success and to know what they need to do to participate in the financial upside.
Leaduh: Help hire and fire and plan company picnics.
Leader: I am a huge advocate for ensuring HR has a “seat at the table” to help generate meaningful solutions for the organization. In my session, we will discuss how HR has a huge opportunity to be strategic in helping to create and advocate the company's business plan, and to lead in the areas of culture and employee engagement, leadership development, and people (attraction, development and retention) and their performance.
Leaduh: Never heard of it.
Leader: As Ken Blanchard says, a servant leader must define the vision, direction, values, and goals for the organization. With that framework in place, people know what they can do to contribute to the company's success. Additionally, a servant leader must serve others, rather than be served. To me, this means leaders must adapt their approach to meet the unique needs of people in terms of disposition, direction, support, goal setting and feedback. Not only is this approach rewarding, it is also very productive! to this item.
